Press Release: Mississippi Mass Choir To Record First Live Christmas CD

May 31, 2007

Jackson, MS. May 31, 2007-World renown, award-winning gospel group The Mississippi Mass Choir, is set to record its first Christmas CD ever. We Have Seen His Star will be taped live on June 29, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Word of Faith Christian Church, 4890 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS, 39209. Admission is free. For directions and parking information, please call: 601-982-4522 or 601-366-8863.

The Mississippi Mass Choir was formed in the late eighties by the Jackson Southernaires’ member, Frank Williams. Williams, who grew into the role of Executive Director of the gospel division at the Malaco Music Group, had a vision that the ‘great, soulful voices of gospel music in Mississippi needed to be captured in a choir,’ so he set about the task of creating one of the greatest gospel choirs of our time.

In the spring of 1989, five weeks after their self-titled debut album was released, Billboard magazine certified it as the # 1 Spiritual Album in the nation. After 45 weeks on the charts, the album set the first of a series of records for gospel choirs; It Remains To Be Seen, released in 1993, maintained the #1 position for twelve months, and throughout the history of the group, they have enjoyed five albums charting in the top five, three holding #1 slots. The choir has also been nominated for every major award in the entertainment industry, winning the Grammy Award in 1997 for I’ll See You In The Rapture. Other wins include: Eleven Stellar Awards, one Soul Train Award, a Billboard Special Achievement Award, Indie Awards, Billboard Magazine Awards, NARM Award, Gospel Music Workshop of America Awards and an Innovation Award from the 3M Corporation.

They have been invited to sing before the President as well as the Pope, were highlighted in the PBS Television special, River of Song, and were the first gospel choir to perform at the Acropolis in Greece. The choir continues to perform on international stages and tours throughout the U.S., paving the way for all gospel artists who follow after them.

Malaco Headlines: Malaco Ladies Climb Charts; Share Faith

Malaco ◊ Legendary Gospel Music
Volume IV, Issue 63

May 18, 2007

Carolyn Traylor made her television debut in January, 2007 when she opened the season for Jeff Majors on The Gospel of Music (TV-One), a show which became the second highest rated for the network.

Now as her single, “There’s A Story Behind My Praise,” from the album of the same name, hits the charts, here is what key radio programmers have to say about it:

“There’s A Story Behind My Praise” is one of the most requested songs on WLOK. I believe it’s because it’s the testimony of the majority of our listeners. Every solo artist and choir member sings it or let’s say attempts to sing it every Sunday in a church here in the Memphis metro area.” Kim Harper, Program Director, WLOK – Memphis, TN

“Carolyn Traylor is an artist who has what we call in the south “Down-Home Class”. Her voice really stirs the soul and blesses the spirit.”
Kenny J, Program Director, WHLW – Montgomery, AL

“The title says it all. It is an awesome testimony. WNOO phones have been lighting up from day one of putting it into rotation. It is definitely about to move to Power rotation.” Sam Terry, Program Director, WNOO – Chattanooga, TN

“I feel “There’s A Story Behind My Praise” is one powerful piece of music ministry, it’s a song that every Christian can relate to..” Jenell Roberts, Program Director, 95.5 Hallelujah FM - Jackson, MS

“Carolyn Traylor has the power of Shirley Caesar and Dottie Peoples with unbelievable range. No matter what she sings, it’s anointed. One Night while ministering in Buffalo, people walking by the church was led to come inside to see who was singing. That’s Powerful!” Lee Pettigrew, Program Director, WUFO – Buffalo, NY

In 1998 a little song called “Why We Sing” by Kirk Franklin & The Family dumbfounded the music industry and transcended the sound and confines of Urban and Urban Adult Contemporary radio programming becoming a phenomenon and one of the biggest songs of all time. The answer to “Why We Sing” is “There’s A Story Behind My Praise!”

PRAISES FOR MAURETTE BROWN-CLARK reviews The Dream and raves about this lofty praise and worship project.  From original cuts by Brown-Clark, Richard Smallwood, Donnie McClurkin, and others, Brown-Clark and her choir lift the roof off the house with every musical prayer contained on it!

Malaco Headlines Maurette Brown-Clark Delivers All Things Good on the Road

Malaco ◊ Legendary Gospel Music
Volume IV, Issue 62

May 4, 2007

Brown-Clark may be small in stature, but she is big in voice and spirit. Her powerful performance at GMA (Nashville, TN) during the New Day showcase brought people to their feet and the spirit took over. With her new release, The Dream, finally on the shelves, fans are finally getting what they’ve waited for: A healing salve for an aching soul.

Brown-Clark has been busy lately, traveling all over the U.S. to promote The Dream. On April 17, she taped Singsation in Chicago, flew to Malaco Records in Jackson, MS, to regroup; then headed to Baton Rouge, LA, to conduct radio interviews at WXOK & WTQT. She also led the Praise and Worship midweek service at a Baton Rouge mega-church. From there she traveled to New Orleans to do the morning show on WYLD and during breakfast at the world famous Trolley Stop, fans stopped for autographs and purchased her CD.

Mobile, AL, was the next spot on the tour; here she did the afternoon drive on WGOK, then turned back to Jackson, MS to do the morning show on WOAD the next day. She spent that afternoon hosting the Midday Lunch hour request show on Hallelujah FM and then participated in the Benjamin Cone III conference on Saturday night, performing at three services at two different churches the following morning.

She finally headed to Nashville for GMA Week, but stopped first in Memphis to lunch with the Program Director of WLOK, arriving in Nashville to do the morning show on WNSG and later wowing the retailers and others gathered in the crowd during the New Day showcase mentioned above. Brown-Clark is pictured above during her performance and below with the entire ensemble of New Day artists who performed together for a special finale.

The Caravans At The Doves

The Caravans, nominated for many awards this year, including the prestigious Dove Award, performed their gospel radio hit, “Remember Me,” during the taped broadcast of the award show at the close of GMA week. “Remember Me” can be found on their forty year reunion album, Paved The Way.
