MISSISSIPPI MASS CHOIR PAVES THE WAY FOR GOSPEL CHOIRS

Frank Williams, who once performed with his brothers in the award-winning group The Williams Brothers and then with The Jackson Southernaires had a vision to create a choir with the soulful voices of the people of Mississippi. After nine years of thought and planning, Williams sent out the word in 1988, that he was holding auditions for a Mississippi Mass Choir.

The choir was an immediate success, it
's first album, Mississippi Mass Choir, Live, peaking #1 and maintaining its position on the charts for forty-eight weeks, setting a record in gospel music.

Since its inception, founder Williams has passed away with Jerry Mannery taking over supervision of the choir for Malaco Records. The choir's phenomenal success helped to pave the way for other gospel choirs to follow in its footsteps, The Georgia Mass Choir (Savoy Records) being one.

The choir has been recognized many times in the industry with awards that include: a Grammy Award, Stellar Awards, Dove Awards and nominations, Indie Awards and Soul Train Music Awards, as well as two NARM Best Sellers Awards.
