Hit Quartet Set to Release New Live Album

Lee Williams & the Spiritual QCs: Tell the Angels

Jackson, MS– Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs have been harmonizing from their home-base of Tupelo, MS, since the late sixties, though it wasn’t until 1998 that Lee Williams himself became the headliner for the group. Beginning his career at the early age of eight years old, singing with his brothers in a group dubbed the Gospel Stars Junior, helped to tailor him for a lifetime of musical performance that has brought this group out of the Delta and into the homes of people throughout the nation.

This five-time Stellar winning group has also garnered the name Traditional Quartet of the Year at the Gospel Music Excellence Awards as well as a nomination for Best Gospel Album at the Soul Train Music Awards. Their upcoming release, Tell the Angels, (MCG Records) was recorded live in Memphis, TN on April 9th to a packed house. The recording was once again produced by Jerry Peters and George Dean (Dean is also with the Gospel Four) and the buzz on the streets says this is their best album to date.

Tell the Angels has been supported extensively by a two month tour that took the group through Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Mississippi,  Georgia, Alabama, Washington state, California, North Carolina and Tennessee. For future tour dates visit:  http://www.leewilliamsqcs.com/concert.htm

PEG RECORDS SIGNS VETERAN TONI GREEN

Jackson, MS. Pegasus Entertainment Records, distributed by Malaco, has recently inked a deal with the well-rounded and internationally known artist Toni Green.

Green's first release on the Phoenix label, More Love, releases July 19, 2005 and contains eleven tracks of sensual, sultry soul, and is expected to rank high on the list of favorites for fans of R&B/funk.

A fresh face on the southern soul scene in the seventies, Green worked with Luther Ingram Band (well known for his #1 smash, "If Lovin' You is Wrong, I Dont Wanna be Right") and the Isaac Hayes Entourage as a back up vocalist. She went on to perform with Dennis Edwards of The Temptations, The Memphis Horns, The Doobie Brothers, Rolls Royce, Midnight Star, Millie Jackson, Betty Wright, The BarKaya, ConFunkShun, Frankie Beverly & Maze, and the legendary Manhattans.

The talented Green sang on the 2000 release of Beauty and the Beast, traveled to London in 1992 to perform in the Broadway musical Nine, produced an album for Geraldine Hunt and acted as an assistant engineer for many albums including Document by R.E.M.

When not spending time in the studio or on the road, Green has been heard on the airwaves in and around her home base of Memphis, TN as "Mother Wit" on WDIA, or as a guest deejay with Henry Nelson or co-hosting The Diva Show with diva legends Shirley Brown, Denise LaSalle, and Lynn White.

Charity work also takes up a large part of Green's time and she has helped to raise money for the United Way of Memphis, the Juvenile court of Memphis and Shelby County Government, the "Luther Ingram Kidney Fund," and other organizations. Her contributions have been so great as to prompt the Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee to honor her with an Outstanding Entertainer and Outstanding Citizen Award.

Some say that Toni Green is finally back, but it appears from her busy schedule and achievements that she never really left in the first place.

MALACO VAMPS UP BLUES RELEASES

Jackson, MS. For some, singing hte blues might be a bad thing, but for Malaco Music Group the blues are what it's all about. With imprints Waldoxy, Ace, JTown Records and Malaco proper as well as distributed labels GPM Records, Tony Mercedes Records, Phoenix Records and more, Malaco is home to the legends of soul, blues, and gospel music.

Indeed, dubbed the "Last Soul Company" by industry members and fans alike, Malaco has preserved and continues to preserve and present the rich Delta heritage of the old blues sound which weaves itself in the roots of many forms of American folk-culture and music.

Nurturing artists such as Bobby Blue Bland, Johnnie Taylor and Denise LaSalle, Malaco has helped the art form to breathe vibrant life into blues music long past the dusk of many other's careers.

While the genre takes a turn lyrically with many newcomers, Floyd Taylor picks up where his father Johnnie Taylor left off and continues in the fine hitmaking tradition laid before him. Denise LaSalle and Shirley Brown, two legendary blues artists come together for an electric production, captured live as DIvas in the Delta, and finally, even the unseasoned blues fan can see how Malaco artists make up such a large part of the Blues tapestry merely by searching hte name of any of the above artists on the internet--the links cover the entire south from the Blues and Heritage Festival in Greenville, Mississippi to the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas.

While many artists may not be known outside the circle, be assured that those on the inside know where to find the gems in blues an soul: Malaco Music Group.

NOVELTY RELEASE HITS STREEETS AND SKATE CENTERS MID-JULY

Jackson, MS-Marxan Records and BG Records, recognizing the popularity of skate centers in local communiities have pinpointed an underserved niche in this area of the consumer music market: Gospel music for skate-lovers! The two labels have each contributed some of their hottest acts and singles to create their first volume, Gospel Skate Jams, which releases July 12 of this year.

Although the labels have capitalized on the award-winning success of artists such as Maurette Brown-Clark (2001 Stellar winner), Kevin McFadden (1999 Stellar nominee), and other well known acts such as Half Mile Home, Charles Woolfork, Shadonna (all Marxan artists), rapper ASON (Toe2Toe Records), John Butler (Milestone Records), the labels will also solicit contributions by independent and unknown artists.

Both label heads agree that this venture could pave the way for a very successful line of compilation albums in an exciting niche market and are targeting the following cities for their initial campaign: Richmond, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Hartford, Houston, Cleveland, Chicago, Washington DC, and Boston.
