Lonnie Hunter III is making his stunning debut on the Muscle Shoals Sound Gospel label with the contemporary gospel album Lonnie Hunter III & The Voices of St. Mark. Lonnie has been living and singing gospel melodies since the age of six. An accomplished vocalist, organist, director and actor, Lonnie is making an everlasting impact within gospel music today.
Lonnie, whose roots are in Harvey, Illinois, was inspired to sing gospel by his mother, who was a prominent gospel singer. Music and gospel have always been a part of his life and upbringing. He competed in several state singing competitions while in high school. Following graduation, Lonnie was lead vocalist for the U. S. Air Force Jazz Band for five years. While in the Air Force, he attended Western Illinois University, where he was the music instructor and graduated with a bachelor's degree in public relations.
As testimony to his devotion to gospel music, Lonnie has been the Minister of Music and a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church Cathedral in Harvey for the past 17 years. In 1989, he and The Voices of St. Mark choir won first place in the Singsation National Gospel Choir Competition, which was sponsored by the William Wrigley Jr. Company. Lonnie's love and passion for gospel is conveyed through his performances and direction. The energy and spirit of his soul flow through him and his music. This adoration for music and gospel has earned Lonnie many accomplishments within the industry. He directed and performed in the gospel has earned Lonnie many accomplishments within the industry. He directed and performed in the gospel play One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, which also starred Vanessa Bell Armstrong. He performed in the PBS gospel documentary, Going Home to Gospel, with Patti LaBelle. In 1990 and 1991, Lonnie was Talent Coordinator for McDonald's Chicagoland Gospelfest Competition.
A successful entrepreneur, Lonnie is president and CEO of Hunter Communications Group, a public relations firm. He was selected the S-Curl Man/Runway Model for Luster Products' S-Curl Campaign for 1993-94. In 1995, Lonnie received the "Pinnacle Award of Achievement - Man of the Year" for business and professional excellence from the Gillette Company and Being Single Magazine. Recently, he reached another milestone by becoming host/emcee and national committee chairperson for Wrigley's 1996-97 Gospel Choir Awards.
