Leanne

Leanne Faine is a vibrant, God fearing woman raised on the solid ground of the Gospel message, who has spent a lifetime belting it out with many legendary Gospel artists and choirs throughout the nation and abroad.

As the youngest of fifteen siblings, she began as many gospel artists do, standing on a pew or at the pulpit in front of the congregation, singing a solo. For Leanne, it was her father who put her on the offering table at the tender age of six and said to those in attendance, “You all let my baby sing.” She wonders if she can attribute her lung power to lengthy bouts of crying as infant, but regardless of where her sustaining ability has come from, she knows without a doubt that God chose her at an early age to share His grace and mercy with others through her powerful gift of ministry through song.

Leanne developed her musical gifts in the loving environment of a home built solidly upon the rock of Jesus Christ. The strict and guiding hands of her parents exemplified their love for the Lord and they relied heavily on their faith and understanding of the gospel to teach and raise their children. Their single-minded approach has served her well and she has proven able to stay on course throughout her life, raising wonderful children and honoring a faithful husband while pursuing a career in Gospel music. As a result, she is able to wear the mantle of responsibility that naturally falls on every Christian artist and minister of Gospel music in a way that commands respect and admiration. In her own words she says, “I strive to reach people, to bless and to give them hope in Jesus Christ, to give them beauty for ashes, and a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” In fact she will tell you that her only career goal is “to be able to continue to share music that ministers, giving God the praise and reaching people.”

As Leanne begins her journey as a solo artist, she draws upon more than forty years of experience as an accomplished soloist in many famous Gospel choirs, including the Bobby Jones Super Choir and The Thompson Community Choir, affectionately referred to as ‘The Tommies’ in some circles. Her earnest desire to continue to share the Gospel is fueled by many experiences that have built up her faith over the years, including being healed from severe arthritis that promised to cripple her for the rest of her life. When she steps out onto a stage or up to the microphone in church today, she is truly a walking witness of the awesome power of God.

In asking about the state of the modern church and the place for Traditional Gospel music there, Leanne states, “The church of yesterday was more reverent, more respectful of ministry and the house of the Lord.” She suggests that there are things allowed in the church today that in years past, were not even allowed on church grounds. In spite of this, she feels that Traditional Gospel music will always remain as the core music of the church, important and viable to it’s strength and growth. She adds that she believes Gospel music will continue to be an integral part of His kingdom eternally, as music itself is a universal language through which the Gospel can be experienced.

Leanne has always, to be sure, kept alive the legacy inspired by her early mentors, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark and Reverend Milton Brunson. Their dedication, standards of excellence, and focus on ministering the Gospel message most definitely fuel her fire. As she looks behind at the youth new to the Gospel music scene, she sees many who are also on fire for the Lord. To be sure, they can look to her as an example and find in her a treasure trove of wisdom and experience that will help to shape their ideals and mold their future as they continue down their path of Gospel music ministry. In fact, she will point them in the right direction as her parents did with her and tell them, “The most important thing about being a gospel singer is the joy and privilege of sharing the good news of a loving Father who sent His only son, Jesus Christ to redeem and save us.”

Leanne Faine has the ability to translate the love, grace, and mercy of Jesus into powerful songs which transport that message into the heart of the listener, and God willing, be transformed.
